When you’re an avid DIY-er, you tend to
hoard keep all kinds of things to use on future projects or to make repurposed items. This footboard was no different. It actually was in my moms garage and she had a massive clean out of her garage a few weeks back and was tossing it.
I asked her if I could have it and she of course let me. My mom also likes to build and craft so I wonder if this “treasure” was hard for her to let go of? She may want it back once she sees what it has become!

I cleaned it up really well with a degreasing cleaner and went to work painting it! I used chalk like paint on this project because I love the finish, coverage and the little to no prep. Then, I drilled holes in the cross bar before painting. I just used a regular drill and a drill bit to make a large enough holes for my pull screws.
Painting indoors is my jam so I can watch movies and my shows while working.
I did two full coats and let it dry then I used a sanding block to rough up and distress the edges. Occasionally, I like to seal with wax but for this project I ended up using polyacrylic because I plan on using this piece outside on the porch at the new house!
Here is the Repurposed Footboard
This can have many uses! Hang your coats or hats or use it for certain holiday decor like I did. If you don’t have a mantel this would work great! I’ve seen others hang baskets with flowers or any other decorative item you wish!
I had so much fun repurposing this footboard and would love to hear of any other projects you’ve done repurposing footboards!
Thanks so much or stopping by!
