Normally I blog about home decor and DIY ideas but I also want to share some of the things I use in everyday life that I have come to love. I decided to share with you guys a few of my favorite things!
First I want to talk about my favorite skin care products. This is really important to me for a few reasons. When we went through fertility treatments (you can read all about that here), the hormones totally screwed up my skin. I developed cystic acne and it was not only painful, but left my skin uneven and scarred. I also developed super sensitive skin. For years I used a product recommended by my dermatologist but that began to stop working after a while. I tried all kinds of face wash and lotions but everything either broke me out or didn’t work. It wasn’t until a weekend visit from Shannon at An Inspired Nest that I discovered my new “holy grail”, Oil of Olay brightening cream cleanser.
My favorite part is that it’s inexpensive and works GREAT! Now keep in mind that all skin types are different so I can’t say to how well it will work for you, but it has become my new favorite. It’s the Oil of Olay brightening cream cleanser. I think this runs about $6 at your local stores. Totally affordable! I order mine from Amazon because, well, I order everything from there!

As I get older my skin has also become quite dry. I love that this a cream and not a soap. It doesn’t lather like most face washes so it takes some time to adjust to the difference.
It’s important to moisturize daily. Again, I have dry skin so if your skin is oily I don’t know how this product will work for you. I use the Oil of Olay Active Hydrating face lotion. A little goes a long way and again, totally affordable. I have tried so many face lotions only to be left disappointed and broken out! Warning, some may not like the smell and if you are sensitive to perfumes, then this may not be for you. The smell reminds me of my Nana so I actually love it.

Exfoliation is great for uneven textures on your skin which become more apparent when wearing makeup. I exfoliate a few times a week and I use the Clairsonic Mia 2. This was given to me by my best friend after I mentioned how great her skin looked. This product comes with 2 different kinds of heads that you can change out. One is for sensitive skin and the other is a little rougher. I go back and forth between the two. You will be amazed at how much makeup it takes off even after washing your face. This provides more of a deep clean than is possible just by simply washing your face.
I am a bargain girl at heart and while I normally don’t spend lots of money on myself, if this were to ever break, I would absolutely run out and buy another that day. It has made such a difference in my skin.

One product recommended to me by my dermatologist that I still use are the Z-Bec Vitamins. They not only help my skin, hair and nails but my immune system. I get sick much less often when taking these and I can tell a difference when I run out and stop taking them for a week or so. I also order these on Amazon because they can be hard to find in stores but I don’t take any other vitamins and they are also very affordable.
Let’s talk about shampoos and conditioners. If you’re like me, you have more than one set in the shower. I like to rotate. But, one of my absolute favorites is the Aveda line. Their Rosemary Mint collection smells like heaven and works so great with my hair. It does tingle a bit but I love it. Again, if you’re sensitive to smells then this may not be the product for you. I use both the Shampoo and Conditioner and have for years! The body wash is also amazing and I occasionally buy that as well!

I just recently cut my hair shorter but for years I had very long locks and they got so tangled! I searched all over for the best products to help tame my unruly locks! One of my tried and true products is called “It’s a 10” leave in conditioner. I also now use this on my daughters hair. It’s so light weight and smells amazing. It never leaves our hair oily or weighed down! It really is an amazing product.

I also bleach my hair and have been doing so for more years than I care to admit. So my ends get a little dry. The “It’s a 10” works so great for tangles and fly aways but I needed something heavier for my ends. I use the Alfaparf oil and I don’t know that I will ever use anything else. Again, it does have parfume for scent so if that’s not for you then you may want to skip this one. It’s an oil but it never leaves my hair oily! Smells like a dream too! I also use this on my daughters hair from time to time.
I’ve been told that you should never brush your hair using a traditional brush when your hair is wet because it can cause damage and breakage. I was told a few year ago about the “Wet Brush” and I am SOO glad someone told me about this! Brushing my hair when wet has become so much easier and with this brush it causes so much less damage than a regular brush. It also helps if you have tender headed little ones like me. She hated having her hair brushed until we got this! I have since ordered 2 more just to have backups!!
I wanted to talk a few minutes about makeup. This is a topic I will need to do a whole blog post on because I am obsessed with all things makeup! It’s pretty much the only girly thing about me. SO in order to keep this section shorter I went ahead and decided to pick one of my newest favorites. Its the Laura Mercier loose powder. I use it to set my under eye area after applying concealer to keep it from creasing but also lightly dust it all over to set my foundation. I think it would work for pretty much any skin color. If you are very dry and don’t moisturize then this product may dry you out a bit.

Have you ever walked into an Anthropolgie store and thought “What is that amazing smell?!”? Well I have too and was told it was the Capri Blue Volcano scent candle. This is by far one of my most favorite candles. I have one in my living room and burn it at night when I am working and can still smell it during the day long after I’ve blown it out. I don’t know how to explain the scent, only to say that I’ve never met anyone that didn’t like the smell.

And last on the list for this post are some leggings I found through Addisons Wonderland Blog. I ordered them based on her review and I was NOT disappointed! I went and ordered another pair shortly after I received the first because they are that awesome!
