After an amazing time at Haven Conference this year, I came home with so many amazing goodies! Some friends and I decided to have a Haven Swag Challenge and see what we could make out of our free swag. I sorted through my goods and decided to make a DIY Welcome Sign.
Materials used from my Swag Bag
I am always working on projects so one thing I am never lacking is wood. After I found a flat piece large enough for the sign I had in mind, I got to work! I stained the board with the Amy Howard stain given to us in our “swag bag”. It went on like a dream and I love the color!
Next, I went to word documents and looked through fonts and decided on one. I made the lettering larger and printed it out on regular paper. It split the wording up on separate sheets because of font size. I had to cut the paper sides to fit my wording of “Welcome” together. Then, I secured the pieces of paper to one another using the Frog tape that was also included in our swag.
Sign Stencil Printed From Word Documents
I took regular chalk and rubbed it all over the back of the lettering of my paper print out. I then put the chalk side down on my board and traced the letters with a pencil. Once you removed your stencil, you will have a chalk outline of the lettering you can now paint! Super simple and free!
Included in the swag bag was a cup from Crate and Pallet. The cup was surrounded by a very small wood crate that I sawed in half. I applied those halves to either side of my “Welcome” wording with wood glue. Then, I painted the border, the small wood crate and the lettering using Fusion Paints that were given to me while at the conference.
Finally, I added a subtle detail to the four corners with wood decals included in my Swag Bag. I attached some screws to the back and hung it on my porch! I added a little live greenery cut from my trees on my property that can be changed out often!
Here’s the Completed Project
It was so much fun participating in this challenge!
I love challenges that allow me to think outside the box and that get my creative juices flowing so I was so excited to be a part of this great group of bloggers!
