How To Add Primitive Style to Your Home Easily and on a Budget.

Today I wanted to share my simple trick I use in every room of my home to add that Primitive Style you see in my home. There are 4 items I always buy when I can find them for a good price!

1. Wood boxes, wood signs, wood furniture.

The older the better and I especially love old wood crates! They are utilitarian. I use them to store my towels and so much more. I love primitive decor that is not only pretty, but useful!

2. Metal

The more rust the better! I buy signs, pitchers, pails, old silverware… The list goes on! You can use old metal in so many ways.

3. Natural Elements

Jute rugs, wicker baskets, faux or even real greenery. I love hanging baskets in clusters on the wall for inexpensive wall art! For these, I paid no more than $1 a basket!

4. White Decor

I can easily incorporate into my decor. My newest obsession is Ironstone! I can thank Marian at Miss Mustard Seed for that. Have you guys seen her collection?! I hung some platters and and some old chippy spindles on this wall in my living room. Again, inexpensive wall art!

The last few items I add are fabrics such as a linen throw or neutral curtains. For a dining room, a unique table runner or place mats. Throw pillows also add great texture to any space. Then I pop in some “found” objects like old books, antique mirrors or maybe some vintage framed paintings. My favorite right now is landscape paintings. Primitive style decor doesn’t have to be expensive. Most of my items are found at garage sales and estate sales. Thrift stores are another great place to find these items!

What are some of your favorite decor items you always buy when you see them? Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Laura these are all really great tips! I’ve also tried adding natural elements to my home decor. The simpler and earthier or as you call it primative the better. I actually really like that name. Miss Mustard Seed is a wealth of information and great images.

These are such creative ideas, and I love the vintage, rustic, country look. I’m especially intrigued when decorators use old, farmhouse tools and equipment in new and interesting ways. Great job!

Would be great if I could even find some ironstone. if I do is usually at Habitat but they have it priced way over what I can afford. Have heard other buyers complaining about prices at Habitat and thrift stores in our area. Love Ironstone but not enuf to spend way over what I can afford.
Love how you decorate, rustic, cottagey would be good companion pieces. I love cottage but mix quite often for relaxed comfy arrangements, using what I have mixed with some finds from thrift stores. Like to shop my house, use items in unusual ways sometimes. Am a very spontaneous decorator, just go with it. Get so much incredible inspiration from blogs.
    Enjoy holiday weekend

Pretty and practical accessories for a primitive style accent! Love the ironstone. I have been trying to stay away from plastic and other synthetic products to decorate my home. Like you, I find that natural elements really beautify my space.

    Thanks for sharing.
