How to Decorate Your House for Free

We all know I am a gal on a budget. Laine and I don’t have a lot left over every month for home projects so I have to make the best with what I already have. I want to share how to decorate your house for free so that you too can use what you already have around the house!

Our home was built in 1908. I was so happy to see that the downstairs of our home had been kept pretty close to original with some modifications. The upstairs, however, was nothing close to early 1900’s.

It’s a newer remodel job and they used a lot of cedar and “saloon” type decor and styles. Saloon style is not my taste and doesn’t go with the house. It will take us some serious time to rework these spaces but I know it will be worth it in the long run.

However, budget is always a concern. Most of our decor budget is usually spent on the things that HAVE to get done. Plumbing, wiring, roofing etc. That leaves little left over for decorating. Recently we removed some of the cedar and that included some saloon doors. I didn’t want to throw them away as I can almost always find a purpose for items. Sometimes all they need is a little paint!

I removed all the hardware and did 3 coats of the Behr Ultra Pure White which I used on my trim and baseboards in the same room I hung them. Then, I added some Magnolia wreaths that I already had on hand and hung those on the doors.

We needed something substantial on either side of the mantel we hung in our master bedroom. (More on that later!)

These aren’t the best images I have ever used on my blog, but we are in the middle the renovation and I wanted to give you all an update on what we have been up to over at the Farm! Soon I will share our antique Mantel we are using in the Master!

Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today and you can see more Master Bedroom updates here!
